I stumbled on this event actually online. A new event called Makeup Show Live held at
The Cumberland Hotel, London, on carnival weekend, 26 August 2012.
Advertised as a makeup show, shopping extravaganza and entertainment for real women, I expected a large trade event. Actually the venue was quite relaxed and split into separate zones.
There was a small selection of brands. Ten Image & Mink pro makeup brands were exhibiting.
The event was sponsored by Boots & Sleek, and I was expecting to see a Sleek stand, but there wasn't.
Other exhibitors included natural beauty brands selling holistic skincare, hair products, makeup items and costume jewellery. Brands included: Mink, Ten Image, Obey Your Body & Gidore Glamor Hair London

I purchased a few lashes. Ten Image had a pair I could resist.
Not only was the event a small exhibition of brands, makeup workshops were scheduled throughout the day by professional makeup artists. Held in an intimate meeting room, I sat in on an Eye Makeup Master Class. A professional MUA used Ten Image colour palettes to create 3 eye looks on volunteering members of the audience. I also attended a Black and Asian Skin workshop in which a professional MUA did the most amazing contouring. These workshops were insightful and open so that you could ask questions.
The main event was held in the main hall. It was scheduled to run twice during the day so you could fit it in around attending some of the workshops. There was a dance act, makeup competition judged by World renowned celebrity beauty & wellness specialist Eryca Freemantle and a talk from Natalya Nair, celebrity makeup artist who worked on the X-Factor last year. She talked about her experience, gave a foundation demonstration, then opened the floor for a question and answer session.
She's a real down to earth person, and gave real, straight to the point answers!
May7ven also performed but I missed her due to attending a workshop.
I purchased 2 VIP tickets for £40 via a Groupon 2 for 1 deal.
It contained another two pairs of Eldora and Paperself lashes, 2 Mink brushes and a body shop lip gloss.
Again, I was a little disappointed not to receive any Sleek products, but appreciated my brushes and lashes!
I think the trade aspect needed to be better but anything to do with makeup gets my interest and I enjoyed the learning element.
